Malaybalay’s 1st centenarian gets P100K

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon (January 12, 2024) – The City Government of Malaybalay has provided a one-time incentive of P100,000.00 to a centenarian in Brgy. Managok here

City Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran personally gave the incentive to Ms. Marina Marquez Encabo at her home in Purok 3, Brgy. Managok, January 10, 2024.

In addition, Encabo received a Certificate of Recognition for her extraordinary longevity.

According to a press release, the incentive for Encabo was granted in compliance with City Ordinance No. 988, series of 2021.

Encabo is the first centenarian to earn such an accolade from the City Government of Malaybalay.

The granted funds came from the city government’s Gender and Development (GAD) budget.

Pabillaran presented Encabo with the cheque and the certificate of appreciation in the presence of representatives from the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Encabo was born on March 16, 1922.

She was recognized in accordance with Republic Act 10868, often known as the Centenarian Act of 2016.

This law recognizes and pays tribute to Filipinos who attain the astounding milestone of reaching 100 years of age, regardless of their location inside the Philippines or overseas.

This initiative reflects the City Government’s commitment to acknowledging and celebrating the important achievements and longevity of its older residents. (melbmadera)

DSWD-10 grants P8.1-M livelihood projects to 23 SLPAs in Malaybalay

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 10, together with partner organizations and local government officials, conducted a turnover ceremony for Social Livelihood Program (SLP) grants on October 26, 2023

The turnover, held at the City Agriculture Office Conference Room, has distributed of a total of PhP8,100,000.00 to 23 Social Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs).

The initiative aims to empower poor, vulnerable, and marginalized households and communities, facilitating socio-economic improvement through access to necessary assets for establishing and sustaining thriving livelihoods.

Representing the DSWD at the event were Ronald Ryan Cui, Assistant Regional Director Officer (ARDO), and Glen Inovero, the SLP Provincial Coordinator. Additionally, Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran and Councilor Cromwell Kiril Dinlayan, along with partner organizations, Engr. Richard B. Leono of City Agriculture and Rey Valdez of City Social Welfare and Development Office attended the turnover ceremony.

The 69 representatives from the 23 SLPAs were not only recipients of the grants but also participants in a comprehensive capability-building program.

The program included training sessions on financial literacy and microenterprise development to equip them to undertake group projects using the capital extended by the DSWD.

Pinulutan SLPA (Mapulo) – PhP405K, Paiwaig SLPA (Linabo) – PhP165K, Romuk-at Tayo SLPA (Simaya) – PhP435K, Livelihood Dreamers SLPA (Apo Macote) – PHp375K, Bangcud Small Business Association – PhP435K, Maligaya Dumayas Bagong Silang – PhP390K, Sagan Ka Bukid Saint Peter SLPA – PhP345K, Santo Niño Mabuligon SLPA – PhP360K, Zamboanguita Rising Farmers SLPA – PhP375K, Kulaman EO 70 SLPA – PhP300K, Mapulo EO 70 SLPA – PhP300K, Nalumusan Agri-Supply EO70 SLPA – PhP300K, Pigbuligaan San Jose EO70 SLPA – PhP300K, Can-ayan Pamana SLPA – PhP300K, Kibalabag Pamana SLPA – PhP300K, and Manalog Pamana SLPA – PhP300K.

PYAP Malaybalay Chapter conducts outreach program for IP Children

In celebration of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) 49th Regional Founding Anniversary and 35th of PYAP Malaybalay Chapter, an outreach program was successfully conducted by PYAP Malaybalay Chapter Federation in Sitio Canada at Barangay Bangcud last July 21, 2023

A Fun Run – Fundraising took place last July 1, 2023, where the proceeds was used for the outreach program and benefited Seventy (70) Indigenous Peoples (IP) children.

School supplies, health kits, and slippers were given which they could use in the coming school days.

PYAP Malaybalay Chapter Federation was grateful to all the individuals who joined and helped during the fundraising activity and is also thankful to the City Government of Malaybalay, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and all the PYAP local chapters and sponsors for all the support extended.

The outreach program is part of the 3-year plan project of PYAP Malaybalay for 2022-2024 which is now moving forward towards a more sustainable outreach activity.

Bigasan livelihood to support 18 solo parent groups in Malaybalay

The project aimed at empowering solo parents and their children, 18 organized groups from various barangays, including Barangay 5, 7, 9, Purok 20 Casisang, Can-ayan, San Jose, Laguitas, Aglayan, Cabangahan, Bangcud, Apo Macote, Singnalan, Violeta, Maligaya, Silae, Kulaman, Sumpong, and Busdi, received bigasan livelihood support

The 2-day activity was held at the White House (Women and Children Family Crisis Center) on July 6-7, 2023.

The City government implemented this initiative with the primary goal of providing opportunities for solo parents and their children to cope with the financial demands of single parenting.

Recognizing the importance of sources of income for these families, a total amount of P 230,000.00 was allocated from the Special Program on Provision of Livelihood to Solo Parents under the Special Purpose Appropriation of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Through various self-enhancement sessions conducted by CSWDO, the participants were equipped with essential skills to bolster their economic prospects. Additionally, regular monitoring and mentorship further strengthened the groups’ operations.

Each group received the necessary financial support to augment their daily and group income. The assistance provided is expected to create sustainable livelihood opportunities, significantly improving the quality of life for solo parents and their children.

The project aims to break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for solo parents and their families.

The event concluded with overwhelming gratitude and renewed hope among the participants. (LGU Malaybalay)

OCD-10 provides non-food pack items to flood victims in Malaybalay City

In response to the devastating floods that struck several barangays in the City on June 21, 2023, the Office of Civil Defense Region X (OCD-10) has taken proactive measures by providing home and shelter repair kits to the affected families. The assistance was coordinated through the City Risk Reduction Management Office in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office

A localized thunderstorm and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) triggered flash floods, impacting a total of at least 112 families in Malaybalay City, as reported initially. To support these number of affected families in their recovery efforts, the OCD-10 generously provided fifty-one (51) Shelter Repair Kits, sixty-one (61) Emergency Shelter Kits, and One Hundred Twelve (112) Family Packs to the City Government of Malaybalay for distribution to the intended beneficiaries.

Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran expressed sincere gratitude to the OCD-10 for their generous assistance extended to the flood victims. The home and shelter repair kits contain essential items and materials necessary for repairing and improving damaged houses. These kits will help families rebuild their lives and regain stability after this unfortunate natural disaster. (LGU Malaybalay)

DSWD 10 turns over livelihood funds to support local projects

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 10, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), held a turnover ceremony at the City Hall, Malaybalay City on July 11, 2023. During the event, three cheques were handed over to two Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) recipients and an individual to serve as seed capital for their proposed livelihood projects

The primary objective of this program is to provide additional capital to Pantawid members, empowering them to become economic partners of the government. Among the beneficiaries is the Managok Rise SLPA, which received a total of P450,000.00 for their egg production project, benefiting 30 individuals with P15,000.00 each.

In line with Executive Order 70, which focuses on vulnerable conflict areas, the Tigbawan Agrisupply Project in Barangay Can-ayan was allocated P300,000.00.

Mrs. Archelie S. Pechora from Mapayag received P105,000.00 as seed capital for her proposed small income-generating project. Her husband, an environmental hero who lost his life while protecting the environment, was honored through this fund. The money will aid Mrs. Pechora’s family in starting a livelihood project and meeting their other needs.

The turnover ceremony was led by Mr. Rhandy L. Ladoroz, the Regional Program Coordinator, and Ms. April Trishia Cebilla, the Special Projects Coordinator of DSWD 10. Key focal persons were present, including Mr. Glenn C. Innovero, the Provincial Coordinator, Mr. Rey P. Valdez representing the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Mr. John Valmores representing Mayor Jay Warren R. Pabillaran, and counterparts from DSWD PDO, Ms. Alaiza Sumampong and Ms. Irene Acosta.

The DSWD 10’s Livelihood Fund Turnover ceremony aims to promote sustainable economic development and empower individuals and communities to become self-reliant. Ang Barangay Patpat nahimong recipient sa bag-ong DSWD program, nga mao ang zero hunger program, diin adunay singkwenta ka pamilya gikan sa lumad nga sektor sa katawhan ang maka benepisyo niini.

CSWDO’s 3-day skills demonstration in celebration of Women with Disabilities Day, conducted

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), in partnership with the Women with Disabilities in the City of Malaybalay, join the whole nation in celebrating the 19th Women with Disabilities Day, anchored to the theme “We for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society.”

As part of the celebration, a skills demonstration on how to cook pineapple jam was conducted by clusters in order to allow the women with disabilities to learn new skills that can be used if they want to engage in business, last March 20 in Barangay 9, last March 21 in Barangay Aglayan, last March 23 in Barangay Simaya and Zamboanguita, respectively, and a forum last March 27 at the People’s Hall, New City Hall, Casisang, this city.

It is in line with Proclamation No. 744 issued on December 6, 2004, declaring the last Monday of March every year as Women with Disabilities Day, which is led by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA).

It is believed that the total development and empowerment of women is a state policy enshrined in the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which specifically provides that the state recognizes the role of women in nation-building and shall ensure the fundamental equality of women and men before the law.

The event was attended by 140 women with disabilities within the city of Malaybalay. During the forum, several topics were discussed in order to help address the concerns of women with disabilities.

The first topic, “Reproductive Health for Women,” was discussed by Dr. Ann Michelle Go, the city’s rural health physician.

The second topic, “Family Enhancement through Spirituality,” was discussed by Pastor Edel Singson from the PopDev section of City Health.

The third topic is an orientation on “ProtecTEEN,” which was given by Ms. Arlene Sanchez, a social worker from CSWD.

The fourth and last topic is “Financial Management,” which was given by Mr. Emmanuel Tomada, a social worker from CSWD.

A total of Php 120,000.00 has been set aside for the event’s success. (LGU Malaybalay)
