MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – In a significant intelligence-driven operation, the 89th Infantry (Makatao) Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Antonio G. Bulao I, successfully excavated a cache of firearms and explosives on March 27, 2026, in the barangays of Kipaypayon and Mahayag, Quezon, Bukidnon

The operation marks a major step in maintaining peace and security in Southern Bukidnon.

According to a statement from the 89IB, the dug arsenal included two M79 grenade launchers, two KG9 submachine guns, three improvised shotguns, a pistol-type shotgun, a .45-caliber pistol, four .357 revolvers, a .38 revolver, a .38 pistol-type firearm, and a .22-caliber pistol.

Additional items recovered were two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one hand grenade, two unserviceable Baofeng radios, subversive documents, multiple rounds of ammunition, and various firearm parts.

All items were safely secured and transported to the battalion headquarters for proper handling and disposition.

The operation’s success was largely attributed to the timely intelligence and cooperation of local residents. Their proactive role in promoting an insurgency-free environment—by preventing the use of terrorist weapons and countering insurgency-related threats—proved essential in safeguarding community well-being and harmony.

“Maintaining peace in Southern Bukidnon remains our unwavering commitment. This success underscores the power of community participation—through collective effort, we ensure our communities stay safe and peaceful,” Lt. Col. Bulao emphasized. (melbmadera)
