Datu Migketay Victorino Saway, Talaandig chieftain, IP rights champion,dies

MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews / 25 September 2026) — Datu Migketay Victorino L.
Saway, a leader of the Talaandig tribe in Lantapan, Bukidnon died on Friday afternoon. He was
72.

Saway, who had always championed Indigenous Peoples’ rights and welfare, was among the
pioneering members of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), a body created
under the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997.
“We honor his profound legacy, visionary leadership, and unwavering dedication to preserving
Indigenous culture, peace, and heritage in Lantapan and beyond. May his soul rest in eternal
peace,” the local government of his hometown, Lantapan, said in its Facebook page Friday
afternoon.
