CMU-BTL tension arises anew

MALAYBALAY CITY (Nov. 22, 2023) – Another tension has arisen between the security personnel of Central Mindanao University (CMU) and members of a farmer’s group called Buffalo, Tamaraw, Limus (BTL) on November 21 afternoon

The commotion occurred near Sayre Highway, Purok 21-A, Dologon, Maramag, when CMU security personnel attempted to drive away farmers who had been erecting temporary structures within the university’s gated area, particularly at the university’s Beef Cattle Project.

According to the report, four people were injured as a result of the beating with sticks and stone-throwing that erupted between the two groups. As reported, one of them was CMU security personnel.

The tension subsided only when personnel from Maramag Municipal Police Station (MMPS) arrived.

The university administration has released a memorandum advising its faculty members of the implementation of a flexible/outcomes-based Teaching/Learning Arrangement the day following the incident to protect the safety and security of the students.

BTL members have infiltrated, occupied, and built shanties in the Beef Cattle Project area fronting the Sayre Highway ahead of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE).

CMU’s agriculture, veterinary, and forestry students would use the area as a laboratory.

To recall, on October 31, 2023, CMU personnel removed part of the shanties in the region with the presence of police and soldiers, but BTL members resisted. Later, the Mayor of Maramag and his Vice Mayor arrived, and a discussion took place.

BTL has yet to issue a statement on the incident as of this writing. (melbmadera)

Army, Bukas Kalinaw supports OVP in free health services

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) Davao Satellite commemorates its 88th founding anniversary with a medical, surgical, and dental mission in the city’s hinterland village

According to a statement issued by the 403rd Brigade, around 300 people of Brgy. Kibalabag has given the free services held at its Brgy. Covered Court on November 11, 2023.

The activities were carried out in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Governor, the 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade, Bukas Kalinaw, the Davao City Medical and Dental Team, the City Health Office of Valencia City, Adventist Medical Center Valencia City, 3rd FSMP, 1364 Dental, Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH), the 4th Infantry Division, the 8th Infantry Battalion, and the Kibalabag Barangay Council.

This coordinated effort is the product of a community immersion program organized by the Bukas Kalinaw, a Bukidnon-based non-profit organization. The program’s purpose was to assess the citizens’ health and socioeconomic position.

On the other hand, this medical, surgical, and dental mission is their way of giving back to the communities in celebration of its 88th Founding Anniversary and will definitely bridge the gap between the people in need and medical communities. This is the way the government extends services and reaches out to the communities to ensure that they can access the program of the government.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Brigadier General Michele B. Anayron Jr, commander of 403 Brigade expressed his gratitude for choosing Bukidnon mostly in the Area of Responsibility of the 403rd Brigade to be the beneficiary of the PagbaBAGo program of the Vice President along with the medical, surgical and dental mission.

“We in the Philippine Army in collaboration with the Bukas Kalinaw and other stakeholders and

The awarding ceremony was held at the Salvador H. Escudero Hall, National Meat Inspection Service, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City on November 17.

The awarded coops are Mantibugao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers’ Cooperative (MARBFC) and Bliss Lingion Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLMPC).

MARBFC manager Evangeline P. Frasco expressed her gratitude in her acceptance speech for their FCA’s hard work being acknowledged and rewarded.

“Thank you, DA for the cash award where we can expand our inputs provision to our corn farmers where more funds mean more farms to be assisted, and an increase in the volume of production to satisfy our markets,” stated Frasco.

On the other hand, Dante M. Dosayco, BLMPC chairperson said, “We assure you (DA) that our future deeds will only get better. This is a token for our past efforts and also a push for our future endeavors.”

In the race for the corn excellence awards, Samahang Gumagawa Tungong Tagumpay MPC from Occidental Mindoro and Maningalao-Lingayao Agriculture Cooperative from Agusan del Norte are the first and second runners-up, respectively, behind MARBFC.

Meanwhile, the first and second runners-up in the cassava awards, respectively, are Villa Luna MPC of Isabela and Zamboanga del Norte Cassava Growers and Processors, Inc. of Zamboanga del Norte, behind BLMPC.

The DA stated that the two coops are their partners in the production of safe and quality corn and cassava, the promotion of the value chain approach, the growth of the corn and cassava sectors, and the provision of various services to their members by the cluster organizations

During the awarding ceremony, U-Nichols A. Manalo, national corn coordinator and OIC-Director of DA-Field Operations Service, read a message on behalf of Senator Cynthia A. Sen. Villar stated that she lauded farm clusters’ achievements, even describing them as drivers of economic growth and social development.

“Rest assured, I will continue to pursue legislative mechanisms and policies that will solidify the linkage of production and market access across our country’s rich and diverse commodities,” Sen. Villar says as she concludes her speech.

‘Spoiled pansit’ downs 147 attendees of Bukidnon wedding rite

COTABATO CITY (Philstar.com/November 19, 2023 | 2:31 pm) — More than a hundred villagers, among them children and indigenous tribespeople, got sick after feasting on food served at a wedding in Talakag town in Bukidnon on Saturday. They are now confined in hospitals

The 147 patients first complained of nausea and painful abdominal spasms before they started throwing up less than two hours after ingesting the traditional “pansit” served to them at the venue of the wedding in Sitio Calapat in Barangay Tagbak in Talakag at past noontime Saturday.

Pansit is a popular Filipino food made up of noodles cooked with either sautéed chicken, or pork, or shrimp and squid, mixed with cabbage and, optionally, sometimes laced with either thin slices of carrots, or chayote.

The local government units of the adjoining Talakag and Lantapan towns in Bukidnon separately confirmed the food poisoning incident early Sunday.

Both LGUs immediately provided the victims with essential interventions needed to hasten their recovery.

Lantapan Mayor Ernie Devibar has announced that some of the victims are from an ethnic community in Sitio Kibuda in Barangay Kibangay in their municipality.

“Our LGU is assisting them,” Devidar said.

Municipal health workers in Lantapan and Talakag had collected specimens of the food served in the weeding rite for laboratory examination by medical technologists and chemists in the Bukidnon Provincial Health Office.

An incumbent member of the Talakag municipal council, Renato Renz Sulatan, Jr., and the chairman of Barangay Tagbak, Runnie Mhel Salungayan, are helping oversee the relief missions of their LGU for the food poisoning victims, now being treated for dehydration caused by excessive vomiting and diarrhea.

“Our LGU and the barangay government of Tagbak are together in monitoring the condition of Talakag residents who got sick and are now in medical facilities,” Sulatan said.

Bukidnon, which is under Administrative Region 10, is an upland province that has indigenous tribes in contiguous state-recognized ancestral domains. (John Unson – Philstar.com)
