Drug suspect evades arrest in Malaybalay

MALAYBALAY VITY (Apr. 26) – A drug suspect evaded arrest in a buy-bust operation at Purok 3, Brgy. San Jose, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon afternoon on April 24.

Col. Roel L. Lami-ing, provincial director of Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (BPPO), said personnel of Malaybalay City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted the operation with PDEA Pre. Ops no. 30002-042020-0149 at the place against Junrey Ortega, a drug listed, legal age, married, and a resident of Brgy. Dalwangan, Malaybalay City.

Ortega, who sensed he was dealing with a police officer, pulled his handgun tucked on his waist and shot the police officer who acted as poseur buyer but missed.

However, the windshield, including the front door window of the unmarked vehicle of the responding backup policemen owned by a police officer, were hit.

The suspect fled at the scene and successfully evaded arrest. Policemen tried to catch the fleeing suspect but failed to get him.

Policemen recovered during the operation a sachet of suspected shabu as buy-bust item, P500 buy-bust money, another four sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated total weight of 10 grams with an estimated market value of ₱68,000.00, an improvised glass tube with attached plastic hose color green and a Sunglass case color black.

The physical Inventory was made at the place of operation in the presence of a Barangay Kagawad of Brgy. San Jose and a representative from media.

The recovered evidences were brought to Malaybalay City Police Station for proper disposition and later were turned over to Bukidnon Provincial Crime Laboratory Office in Malaybalay City.

Policemen are preparing a case for Violation of Article II, sections 05, 11, and 12 of R.A. 9165 known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Multiple Frustrated MURDER.

Kaamulan 2020 Cancelled

MALAYBALAY CITY (Feb. 12) – Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri, Jr. officially canceled the 2020 Kaamulan due to the ongoing threat of the spread of the 2019 novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (2019-nCoV ARD).

The Governor issued Memorandum Order No. 431 series of 2020 on Feb. at noon addressed to all City and Municipal Mayors, Barangay Chairpersons, chairpersons of all different committees for the Kaamulan and Tribal Leaders (Datus and Baes) in the province.

In the memorandum order, Gov. Zubiri cited the advisory of the Department of Health signed by Sec. Francisco Duque regarding concerts and other public events and gatherings.

The DOH strongly urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees given the ongoing threat of the spread of 2019-nCoV ARD.

The DOH also likewise recommends the cancellation of planned big events or mass gatherings until further advice.

The Governor said the 2020 Kaamulan is canceled as a pro-active measure to keep the people of the province safe from the threat of the highly infectious disease.

But the day before the official cancellation, Zubiri conducted a consultation on whether Kaamulan be canceled or not.

Hansel Echavez, supervising administrative officer of the Public Affairs and Information Assistance (PAIA) Division of the capitol said the majority in the consultations were in favor of the Kaamulan celebration.

He said the consultations were held at Kaamulan Folk Arts Theatre in Malaybalay City attended by Barangay chairpersons, at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) and chairpersons of all different committees for the Kaamulan.

Gov. Zubiri also ordered all mayors and barangay chairpersons to cancel all public events and mass gatherings that draw a huge number of attendees in their respective areas of jurisdiction for the same reason.

If not canceled, this year, the competing Local Government Units (LGUs) for the Street Dancing, Ground Presentation, and Float Competitions are the towns of Baungon, Don Carlos, Dangcagan, Impasugong, Damulog, Kalilangan, Kibawe, Lantapan, Libona, San Fernando, Pangantucan, Cabanglasan, Quezon and the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia.

Kaamulan is an ethnic cultural festival of the seven Hill Tribes of Bukidnon namely; Higaonon, Bukidnon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matisalug, Tigwahanon, and Umayamnon.

Kaamulan comes from the Binukid word “amul” meaning to gather. It is a gathering for a purpose—a datuship ritual, a wedding ceremony, a thanksgiving festival during harvest time, a peace pact, or all of these together.

Kaamulan started as a festival on May 15, 1974, during the fiesta celebration of the then municipality of Malaybalay.

Through provincial ordinance No. 2018-083r (13th SP) “An ordinance fixing a regular schedule for the Kaamulan amending for the purpose section 3 of Ordinance No. 2007-003R (10th-sp) entitled, “An Ordinance Institutionalizing the Celebration of the Kaamulan”, the annual gathering will be held from March 23 to April 23.

Drug personality gipatay sa Malaybalay

Isa ka drug personality kinsa kanhi napriso apan nakagawas gumikan sa plea bargaining agreement ang gipatay sa Purok 14, Sitio Gabunan, Brgy. Casisang, Malaybalay City buntag sa enero 31.

Sumala sa taho sa kapolisan, ang biktima nailang si Noel Jhon Tangis, 21, ulitawo, residente sa Purok 8, Brgy. Sumpong Malaybalay City. Siya nakaangkon sa duha ka grabing samad pinusilan sa ulo, isa sa nawong ug isa sa liog.

Napalgan ang iyang patay’ng lawas nga nagkadugo diin ang mga kamot parehong gihiktan sa liston sa sapatos.

Matud sa mga residente sa dapit, nabati nila ang sunodsunod nga buto sa armas diin napalgan ang biktima.

Saysay sa silingan sa biktma, nga ang gipatay human sa panihapon uban sa pamilya ang misibat sakay sa motorsiklo.

Nakuha sa dapit sa krimen ang tulo ka kapsola sa bala sa kalibre .45 pistola, motorsiklo ug mga dokumento.

Capitol opens National, Provincial offices

MALAYBALAY CITY (Jan. 28) – The Provincial Government of Bukidnon (PGB) has formally opened the rehabilitated Old Hospital Building that will house National and Provincial Offices on January 27.

Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr. led PGB officials in the Blessing ceremony held after the flag-raising ceremony of the Capitol.

Engr. Albert Yulo, the provincial engineer said earlier that 16 provincial offices will occupy the rehabilitated Old Hospital.

He added that 12 national offices will also occupy the building.
Among of the national offices are the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, Public Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Social Security System, Philippine Information Agency, Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority, PNP Cyber Crime Division, Department of Health, Pag-Ibig Fund, Philhealth Corporation, Department of Social Welfare and Development Region X and Clerk of Court.

The City Prosecutor’s Office and Bukidnon Tagoloanon Mulahay ha Kabukalagan Agriculture Cooperative o BUKTAMACO will also be housing the Old Hospital Building.

Gov. Zubiri clarified earlier that occupants can utilize the building for free.
But Echavez pointed that occupants will shoulder the expenses for the furniture and fixtures, air-conditioning units and utilities such as water and power bills.
The Governor said that the building has a parking area at the back that can accommodate 142 4-wheel vehicles and 117 motorcycles for the clients and employees.

Based on data, the ground floor has 13 offices, 15 on the second floor and two on the 3rd floor.

The PGB has allocated P46.79 million in rehabilitating the Old Hospital Building. (Mel B. Madera).

VP Robredo turns over Boys Dormitory project in Sumilao

MALAYBALAY CITY (Jan. 30) – Vice President Leni Robredo led the turnover ceremony of the Boys Dormitory project inside the school campus of Sumilao National High School in Brgy. Vista Villa, Sumilao town on January 29.

Information from the Information Center head of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Bukidnon said the project is worth P2.2 million.

It is donated by ANCOP USA (Answering the Cry of the Poor Foundation USA).
It can accommodate 20 students with two bathrooms, two comfort rooms and a room for a house parent.

The dormitory will ease the students’ difficulties in walking three to four hours just to get to school.

This is the second phase of VP Robredo’s project for the said school with members of the Indigenous Peoples as beneficiary.

Last year, Robredo has turned over the Girls Dormitory to the same school in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati. (Mel B. Madera)
