MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – In a significant move to promote peace among Indigenous Peoples communities, troops from the 89th Infantry Battalion (89IB), alongside representatives from the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, participated in a tribal settlement meeting on March 15, 2026, at Sitio Natampod, Barangay Namnam, San Fernando, Bukidnon

The gathering sought to mediate a local tribal conflict known as “Maghat,” the military reported.

Leading the engagement were Lt. Col. Antonio G. Bulao I, commanding officer of the 89IB, and Capt. Jefte A. Abbe of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, who facilitated discussions aimed at fostering peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding among the concerned Indigenous communities.

The meeting underscored the continued partnership between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), local government units (LGUs), and Indigenous Peoples leaders in promoting culturally sensitive conflict resolution and strengthening unity within the region.

The 89IB said this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions and prevent the escalation of disputes among Indigenous communities in the tri-boundary areas of Talaingod and Kapalong in Davao del Norte, and San Fernando in Bukidnon.

The dialogue was spearheaded by Datu Jose Baon, Municipal Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of San Fernando, and attended by local officials and tribal leaders, including Rose Ann G. Suelo, Barangay Captain of Kibungcog; Nilo Villaflor, Barangay Captain of Namnam; Hon. Bogsi Anlas, Barangay Captain of Dagohoy; and Joana Man-abugon, IPMR of Namnam.

Also present was Datu Sonny K. Daga-as, Tribal Chieftain of Kapalong, who contributed to bridging the communities through traditional protocols and guidance. (melbmadera)
