CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed illegal drugs and expired medicines worth P142,109,254.33 on March 25 in Cagayan de Oro City, removing them from circulation and preventing reuse

PDEA Director General Isagani R. Nerez said the destruction reflects the impact of anti-drug operations on communities.

“Each gram of illegal drug destroyed represents lives saved, families reunited, and communities given another chance to rise and reintegrate as productive citizens,” Nerez said during the activity.

Authorities disposed of 23,611.232 grams of dangerous drugs, including 20,849.6866 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, valued at P141.78 million; 2,479.9119 grams of marijuana fruiting tops worth P297,589; and 281.6335 grams of marijuana dried leaves valued at P281,634. Expired medicines from pharmacies worth P61,289 were also included.

Nerez said the activity represents enforcement and public accountability.

“Behind every illegal drug taken off our streets lies a renewed hope that every Filipino can reclaim a better, safer, and more dignified life,” he said.

Nerez emphasized that the fight against illegal drugs is not PDEA’s alone. He said it requires participation beyond law enforcement.

“This fight requires a whole-of-nation effort from the government, communities, and every Filipino for a safer, stronger, drug-free Philippines,” he added.

PDEA-10 Regional Director Alex M. Tablate said the destruction reflects coordination among agencies involved in enforcement and prosecution.

“This is a testament to transparency, justice, and accountability. The war on drugs demands collective action from law enforcement, prosecutors, the judiciary, and communities. Together, we build public trust and a safer Northern Mindanao,” Tablate said.

The value of the destroyed drugs exceeded previous disposal activities conducted in May 2021 and November 2019, which involved P61.49 million and P59.36 million worth of illegal drugs, respectively.

PDEA said the destruction ensures that seized substances are permanently removed and supports efforts to address illegal drug activities in the region. (SAYU/PIA-10)
