CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (December 16, 2025 – 7:29 pm) — Here is a welcome relief for truckers and vehicle owners

The Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 10 said the construction of the detour road near the damaged highway linking Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Davao is now “65 percent” completed.

DPWH 10 information officer Novie Cabrido said the four-lane detour road in Sitio Kipolot in Barangay Palacapao in Quezon town, Bukidnon will be open by the first or second week of January 2026.

“Currently our engineers are correcting the grade of the road surface. By January there will be only minor activities to finish the project,” Cabrido said.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon had ordered the construction of the detour road after the highway in Quezon town, a vital link for Northern Mindanao and Davao regions, collapsed due to heavy rains last October 16.

Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño of the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) Region 10 had said the disruption of vehicular traffic has resulted to an estimated P187 million a day in economic losses or a 1.19 percent drop in Northern Mindanao’s gross domestic regional product or GDRP.

Cabrido said the detour road constructed beside the collapsed portion of the highway was constructed at a cost of P46,607,879.33 using the DPWH Quick Response Fund.

“Our engineers were given 45 days to complete the road detour project to ease the burden of the truckers and vehicle owners,” she said.

Cabrido said the four-lane detour road is not cemented but their engineers assured the public that heavy trucks and vehicles can pass through it safely.

She said the funds for the cementing of the road would have to be requested by their Manila office. (Froilan Gallardo/MindaNews)
