MARAMAG, Bukidnon — The Department of Agriculture–Region 10 (DA-10), in partnership with Central Mindanao University (CMU) and 19 participating companies, showcased innovative rice technologies and sustainable soil solutions during a harvest festival on March 3, highlighting gains in productivity and profitability
In a press release, DA-10 said initial results from the soil ameliorant demonstration sites recorded an average yield of 4.66 metric tons per hectare (MT/ha). Average production cost reached ₱45,210.64 per hectare, while gross revenue averaged ₱88,678, generating an 86 percent return on expenses.
The project, launched in November 2025 and scheduled to conclude in March 2026, covers a total of 30.82 hectares of rice fields. Of this area, 19 hectares were treated with biofertilizers supplied by 16 participating companies, while 11.82 hectares were applied with soil ameliorants provided by 11 companies.
Researchers conducted side-by-side comparisons of the technologies against traditional farming practices. Data were gathered on yield performance, soil health indicators, and cost-benefit analysis to assess productivity and economic viability. Results from the remaining areas are expected to be consolidated after harvest next week.
Around 250 participants attended the activity, including members of the academe, farmers’ groups, and representatives from local government units (LGUs) in Bukidnon.
CMU President Rolito G. Eballe expressed appreciation to the department for its continued trust in the university as a partner in advancing agricultural innovation in Northern Mindanao.
“We hope DA-10 will continue to consider CMU as a partner in the next cycle of implementation,” he said.
For her part, Field Operations Division Chief Dr. Luz I. Guzman thanked the university for providing the site for the technology demonstration farm. She emphasized that the university plays a vital role not only in instruction but also in extension, research, and demonstration for farmers.
“Without CMU, we would not have an area to conduct these techno demos that will benefit our farming communities,” Guzman said.
In her closing message, Bukidnon Provincial Operations Center Chief Jamaica L. Docdoc said the activity highlighted the performance of the participating companies’ products.
She noted that the results will help identify the better-performing soil ameliorants and biofertilizers for future procurement.
The initiative supports DA-10’s ongoing efforts to help farmers produce sustainable, safe, and high-quality agricultural products while strengthening regional food security. (melbmadera)
