MANOLO FORTICH, Bukidnon — Manolo Fortich nears completion of a P23.9-million Septage Treatment Plant (STP) in Barangay Alae, set to become Northern Mindanao’s first LGU-owned facility

The project supports the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) mandate to expedite the development of modern sanitation infrastructure.

Green GAIA Technology Development and Construction, OPC, began the project on June 20, 2025, with completion targeted by May 2026.

Project In-Charge Engr. Charles Ian Paborada reported that the facility has reached 85 percent completion. With structural work completed, crews are now installing piping systems and a generator set to ensure uninterrupted service for the community.

“By the end of March, we expect to begin commissioning to prepare the STP for full operation,” Paborada said.

Sharon Tacbobo, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO), said that by localizing national environmental standards, the project transforms policy into a tangible shield for the municipality’s water systems.

“The plant, situated at the municipal sanitary landfill, processes domestic wastewater by removing harmful bacteria and pollutants. This project follows a rare feasibility grant awarded within the regional Water Quality Management Area, a move lauded by environmental advocates for its proactive approach to water security,” Tacbobo said.

She said the project directly supports the fourth pillar of Mayor Rogelio Quiño’s 8-point agenda, which executes the DENR’s mission to safeguard public health through rigorous environmental protection.

Tacbobo said residents have welcomed the development, noting that localized wastewater treatment reduces the risk of waterborne diseases and prevents the degradation of nearby rivers.

“Slated for full operation by May 2026, the facility serves as the municipality’s primary defense against water pollution,” the MENRO said, emphasizing that the transition from traditional waste disposal to scientific treatment represents a major victory for the people of Manolo Fortich, ensuring that clean water remains a legacy for future generations.
