CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (August 26, 2025, 6:51 p.m.) – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) launched the nationwide broadband mapping system here on Tuesday, developed by engineers and information technology professionals from Northern Mindanao
NTC Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez said the operation of the Quality of Service (QoS) and Broadband Mapping System serves as a toolkit for NTC offices to assist policymakers, investors, and local governments in providing prompt and data-driven information.
She said consumers should experience the outcome through the ease of doing business in the markets and institutions.
“This is to establish clear and transparent benchmarks on (data) service providers’ speed and reliability for the consumers,” Lopez said.
The QoS will guarantee that service providers deliver the internet speeds they have advertised in their marketing, she added.
NTC Northern Mindanao Director Teodory Buenavista Jr. said the launch is a milestone as the national directorate adopted a system designed by developers mainly from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).
The system provides real-time data on connected communities, which the NTC is responsible for managing and monitoring.
USTP president Dr. Ambrosio Cultura II said the QoS and Broadband Mapping System are platforms to bridge the digital divide between communities.
At the start, the development team carried out pilot testing in 2,800 villages across 12 regions. After the launch, it aims to expand to an additional 5,000 villages nationwide.
Along with the QoS, the NTC Edge Extension Program, which facilitates easier document tracing and filing within government bureaucracies, was also launched. (Nef Luczon/PNA)
