MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — The Bukidnon provincial police destroyed ₱114,333 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices on January 6 at Camp Ramon Onahon, concluding weeks of intensified enforcement aimed at curbing firecracker-related injuries during the holiday season

The ceremonial disposal capped police operations conducted from December 1, 2025, to January 5, 2026—a period when emergency rooms typically report an increase in injuries linked to banned and improvised explosives.

Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (BPPO) spokesperson Capt. Sheila Joy P. Jangad said the activity demonstrated the Philippine National Police’s sustained effort to enforce regulations and protect communities, especially children.

“Police seized ,1923 pieces of illegal firecrackers in separate operations across the province. Most items were recovered through checkpoints, inspections, and reports from residents,” she said.

Confiscated materials included 102 boxes of Pla-Pla and 129 boxes of Papap, along with prohibited items such as Piccolo, Five Star, whistle bombs, Judas Belt, Rambo, Bawang, fountains, Moon Travelers, sparklers, Happy New Year, Dragon, Fuego, and Bunga.

“The local government and the PNP remain committed to minimizing injuries and accidents caused by illegal firecrackers. The enforcement measures focused on prevention rather than punishment,” Jangad added.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Bukidnon Provincial Director Rhona Pedraza-Abadilla noted that the DILG continues to issue advisories to local government units (LGUs) to ensure local ordinances align with national regulations.

“The confiscated materials show our shared commitment to duty during the holiday season,” Abadilla said, commending police units and LGUs for their sustained enforcement. She added that the disposal reinforced Republic Act 7183, which regulates and controls the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
