MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – A businessman was killed while a security guard was injured in a shooting incident at Monjay Electrical Supply, located at the corner of Bontao Street, Barangay 8, Malaybalay City, on the morning of May 15, 2026—coinciding with the city’s annual fiesta in honor of San Isidro Labrador
The victim, a 74-year-old businessman who reportedly resided within the hardware premises,
sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of the body. He was rushed to
Polymedic Hospital in the city but was later declared dead.
The security guard, a 25-year-old resident of Sitio Encalbog, Barangay Can-ayan, Malaybalay
City, sustained a gunshot wound to his right elbow. He was initially treated by the Malaybalay
Emergency Rescue Unit before being transferred to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center
(BPMC) for further medical care.
Police identified the suspect as the victim’s nephew, a 43-year-old businessman listed as a
resident of Block 5, Arriola Compound, Nivel Hills, Busay, Cebu City, based on his driver’s

Station.
Initial investigation showed that an argument allegedly erupted over a piece of land inside the
hardware store, which escalated into a shooting incident.

recovered at the scene. The firearm has been submitted to the Regional Crime Scene Unit 10
