DAMULOG, Bukidnon (September 03, 2025 7:49 PM) – A house was damaged after the ground cracked and collapsed in Sitio Kipaling, Barangay New Compostela in Damulog, Bukidnon

According to the house owner, the cracks appeared after they felt vibrations on the ground morning on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

The cracks reportedly widened in the days that followed. On Wednesday, September 3, a portion of the ground caved in.

“Nangahuslo gyud ang yuta, dili lang man ingon nga kato ra ang gipuy-an namo didto kanang dako man ang na-crack gyud sa yuta murag kung kusog ang ulan murag muhandos gyud ni siya,” house owner, Maregen Obas, said.

Obas said their family has been unable to get proper sleep for several days out of fear.

The family suspects that the road construction project near their area may have caused the cracks.

“Diri sa ubos gikalutan (para) sa kalsada unya wala na’y gapugong kay ang yuta man gud diri kanang clay ba murag naa’y tubig sa ilalom, humok kayo muna ni siya nidahili,” Obas added.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao has reached out to the contractor for a statement, but they have yet to respond as of this writing.

However, the barangay council said the contractor vowed to help the affected residents.

“Ang ilang ingon tabangan nga ma-relocate ang pamilya. Nagpasa na sab mi og partial nga report didto sa MDRRMO,” Barangay Councilwoman Cristina Villarte said.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said its personnel have already inspected the area together with personnel from the Municipal Engineer’s Office.

Based on initial inspection, the soil may have softened due to the excavation for the road project.

Residents were advised not to return to their homes for now.

“Ang posible cause namo nga among gitan-aw kaning widening nga nahitabo didto sa ubos niya kay uphill man gud na siya,” MDRRMO Chief, James Patrick Colegio, said.

A meeting between the MDRRMO, Municipal Engineer’s Office, barangay council, contractor, and the affected family is scheduled to discuss possible solutions. (Cyril Chaves/GMA Regional TV)
