CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (October 3, 2025) — The Regional Development Council of Northern Mindanao (RDC-10) recognized a recent research study on teenage pregnancy and called for strengthened policy measures during its 142nd Full Council Meeting

The study, titled “Factors Influencing the Incidence of Teenage Pregnancy in Region X,” was conducted by Northern Bukidnon State College, with Dr. Witting-Acuesa as lead researcher. The RDC commended the institution for its role in contributing research to guide regional adolescent health policies.

Key recommendations from the study include integrating adolescent reproductive health education into school curricula, establishing peer educator programs in schools, and supporting community-based initiatives through state universities, colleges, and higher education institutions.

The study also recommends providing skills training for teenage mothers and their partners, creating a support system for adolescent parents, and enhancing data collection on cohabitation to better inform future policies.

RDC-10 noted that the study offers a basis for targeted policy actions and program development across local government units. Findings from the research will be presented to provincial and city governments through their respective Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Panlungsod to encourage localized planning and implementation.

The council affirmed its support for evidence-based policymaking as part of ongoing efforts to address regional social development issues. (DEPDev-10/PIA-10)
