MANOLO FORTICH, Bukidnon (September 23, 2025) — Thirteen college scholars from Aboitiz Foundation’s rural host communities in Bukidnon and Albay recently graduated through an education grant supported by Aboitiz Renewables, in partnership with the Foundation

One scholar earned a degree in Agriculture at Central Mindanao University, while the others completed degrees in Education, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Nursing at Bicol University.

“We are proud to witness our scholars reach this important milestone. We wish them continued success and hope their journey inspires others. May they create opportunities that empower more young people to thrive, energizing progress and uplifting communities,” said Aboitiz Renewables President Jimmy Villaroman.

Since 2015, the Aboitiz Renewables College Scholarship Program has supported 103 students nationwide through stipends, academic performance incentives, and mentorship. The program provides assistance to ease the financial requirements of higher education and prepares scholars for future leadership roles.

“Education ignites personal growth, and growth-minded individuals will be the leading drivers of progress for our nation,” Villaroman added.

Fredie Nanganlag Jr., who earned a degree in Agriculture, majoring in Crop Science – Plant Breeding, from Central Mindanao University, said he hopes to use his knowledge to help farmers in Bukidnon improve crop yields and adopt sustainable farming practices.

“This scholarship allowed me to complete my degree despite the challenges of living in a remote community. Now that I’ve graduated, I want to apply what I’ve learned to support local farmers, introduce innovative agricultural techniques, and contribute to the development of our community,” Nanganlag said.

Magna Cum Laude graduate Melody de Vera Cerio, who earned a degree in English Language from Bicol University, shared her experience as a scholar.

“I was empowered, so I want to empower others. My goal is to inspire students from communities like mine to believe they can succeed, no matter where they begin. I hope my journey encourages more young people to pursue higher education and make a positive impact in their communities,” she said.

The scholarship program is part of Aboitiz Renewables and Aboitiz Foundation’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in host communities surrounding its hydro, solar, and geothermal facilities. These initiatives also include livelihood development, environmental stewardship, and community programs. (KM/Hedcor-AboitizPower/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
