MARAMAG, Bukidnon — The 89th Infantry (Makatao) Battalion of the Philippine Army proudly celebrated its 8th Founding Anniversary on September 19, 2025, underscoring its steadfast role in securing peace and fostering development in conflict-affected communities

Activated in 2017 in the wake of the Marawi Siege, the battalion has since been at the forefront of peacebuilding and security operations across its area of responsibility.

This year’s commemoration was graced by Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri as Guest of Honor and Speaker (GOHAS). A lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve Command, Zubiri lauded the battalion’s service and sacrifice in his keynote message.

“The 89th Infantry Battalion is a shining example of what it means to serve the nation with honor and integrity. Your sacrifices have laid the foundation for peace and progress in Mindanao. We salute your service,” Zubiri said.

Joining the celebration was Major General Allan D. Hambala, commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, who highlighted a historic milestone.

“Through the dedication of units like the 89IB, I am proud to announce that the entire area of responsibility of the 10th Infantry Division is now considered free from armed threats,” MGen. Hambala declared.

“This victory belongs not only to our soldiers, but also to every community that stood alongside us in our mission for peace.”

Lt. Col. Antonio G. Bulao I, commanding officer of the 89IB, led the anniversary rites and commended the collective efforts of his officers, NCOs, and enlisted personnel in carrying out the battalion’s mission.

The event also featured an awarding ceremony honoring personnel for exemplary dedication, operational achievements, and contributions to mission success—reflecting the professionalism and service excellence of the battalion.

A significant highlight was the recognition of San Fernando, Bukidnon, as the first insurgency-free municipality in Region 10, a milestone credited to the 89IB’s sustained peace efforts. This achievement has since inspired seven more municipalities to follow suit, with others in progress.

Held at the battalion headquarters in Purok 10, Brgy. South Poblacion, Maramag, the celebration included military honors, capability displays, messages of support from partner agencies, and a reaffirmation of the battalion’s enduring mission in peace and security.

As the 89IB marches into its ninth year, it remains undaunted, unwavering, and unrelenting—serving the people, securing the land, and sustaining the peace with honor, commitment, and its battle cry of “No Alibi.” (89IB/melbmadera)
