Sumala sa report sa Impasug-ong Municipal Police Station (IMPS), ang wala mailang mga walo ka tawo ang misulod sa pasilidad nga nahimutang sa Brgy. Cawayan, Impasugong, Bukidnon.

Sa gihimong imbestigasyon, nasayran nga upat ka mga security guard ang nag-duty sa compound.

Nakurat sila human gipangtionan sa mga suspek gamit ang shotguns ug handguns ug gidis-armahan.

Gitugyan sa mga sekyu ang ilang agency-issued firearms nga gilangkuban sa duha ka kalibre .38 revolver ug duha cal. 9mm pistol.

Lakip sab nga gibitbit sa mga suspek ang ilang upat ka cellphone dayong sibat padulong sa wala masayring direksyon.

Walay napabuto nga armas atol sa insidente ug walay natala nga kaswalti.

Korean gov’t entrusts Smart greenhouse project to Agri-10 research complex

MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON – The Department of Agriculture – Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) is entrusted with the P100-million Korean-funded and -innovated Smart greenhouse project housed in its grounds on December 21, in Brgy. Dalwangan here

This after the Philippine government through DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado signed a gratuitous transfer agreement.

Witnessing the signing were Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Cora A. Dumayaca, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (EPIS), and the Hankyong National University (HNU) of South Korea, signifying for the former agency to fulfill the use and management of the handed over objects of said project.

Since its launch in April 2022, said project fully dubbed as the “Establishment of Smart Greenhouse and Capacity Building in the Philippines” has been serving as a research and training hub featuring Smart Greenhouse technology for innovative production of quality high-valued crops such as strawberries, cherry tomato, white potato and pepper, and later on, expanding to watermelon and lettuce.

“I am confident that the successful handover of this project will greatly contribute to the Philippine DA’s efforts in enhancing future agricultural technological capabilities through smart Agriculture,” Yong-Ho Jung, General Division Director of International Cooperation at
MAFRA remarked during the turnover program ceremony.

He also put a premium on the smart agriculture project, especially so that the country focuses on modernization and digital transformation within the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, RED Collado extended his appreciation to the Korean partners for the provision of technical and financial support at the same time alluded to the gains of the collaborative project. It is composed of the establishment of a smart farm, the development of a local distribution system, dispatch of experts, and capacity building of technology adopters.

“The said innovative farming technique provides farmers with higher yield and better quality of farm produce while enabling consistent crop production year-round, thus addressing market requirements to attain food efficiency and sufficiency,” he said.

The agri chief exec added that the showcase and adoption of the latest technologies play a crucial role in feeding the next generation.

“Smart technology and precision farming upgrade our productivity levels benefiting farmers and food producers,” the DA-10 official stated.

Likewise, Dir. Collado continues to pin hopes on boosting the region and the Philippines’ food security, the said project has been gaining interest among the public, particularly on how farmers can replicate it in their localities.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to learn these incredible advancements in technology [smart greenhouse] that have easily transformed our farming in so many ways such as improving the quality, quantity, cost [of our harvest] and productivity,” Joel T. Rivera, Lantapan Vegetable
Farmers and Marketing Cooperative marketing head conveyed.

His account on farming, trading, and marketing was done before his fellow smart greenhouse technology trainees and/or adopters from the towns of Talakag, Sumilao, Lantapan, and Impasug-ong, and the city of Malaybalay, all from Bukidnon province.

As the transfer of said project is eyed for continuing farmers’ training and/or research on smart farming in the coming years, EPIS Vice-President An Jaerok underscored saying: “Looking ahead, we expect that the training for farmers and the cultivation of high-valued crops will play a pivotal role in boosting productivity, as well as in elevating the comprehension and skills of farmers in the area of smart farming.”

Also supporting the event were Wonhee Lee, HNU president and eight other senior officials from MAFRA, EPIS and HNU; Aleli Maghirang, agriculture attaché in South Korea and Japan; DA-Special Projects Coordination and Management Assistance team headed by its chief,
Angelita dela Cueva-Martir; Malaybalay City mayor Warren Jay R. Pabillaran; Acting Bukidnon Provincial Agriculturist Jacqueline Julia A. Lagamon, and other DA-10 and regional management (NFA, PhilFIDA, BPI-PQS, NIA, BAI-NVQS, NMIS and ATI) committee members and staff. (JLO)

Cesafi MVP Kent Ivo Salarda: One of UV’s diamond-in-the-rough Bukidnon players

CEBU CITY, Philippines (Dec. 18, 2023 – 02:46 PM) — The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers scouts didn’t fail mining diamonds in the rough in the province of Bukidnon in Mindanao throughout the years

The Green Lancers which hoisted its 15th Cesafi men’s basketball title last Saturday has fielded numerous top-tier players from Bukidnon with the likes of Cesar Catli and Poypoy Actub.

This time, one of the two Bukidnon-native Green Lancers, Kent Ivo Salarda is starting to make his name after winning the Cesafi Season 23 “Most Valuable Player” plum.

The 21-year-old Salarda was instrumental in winning UV’s 15th Cesafi title, and fifth title for his head coach Gary Cortes.

In the pivotal Game 3 last Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum, Salarda unloaded 14 points, while fellow Bukidnon native Raul Gentallan III chipped in 13 points to lead UV in scoring.

Salarda is one of four siblings from a family with no basketball background in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, a sleepy town 65 kilometers north of the province’s capital in Malaybalay.

Salarda credited the entire UV Green Lancers team for helping him win the MVP title.

“Pasalamat kaayo ko sa Ginoo kay iyaha kong gihatagan ug ing-ani ng award. Ako pud gi credit ni sa akong coaches ug teammates kay tungod sa ilaha. Wala gyud ko mag expect ako modaog sa MVP kay kami tanan naningkamot ug duwa,” said Salarda, a second-year marketing management student in UV.

(I am grateful to the Lord because he gave me an award such as this. I also give credit to my coaches and teammates because of them (we won). I did not expect to win the MVP because all of us worked hard in the game.

Before joining UV in 2022, Salarda was already making his presence felt in the local basketball scene after winning the MVP title in the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) 21-Under Mindanao Conference Cup.

Defend the title
According to the 6-foot-1 Salarda, he wasn’t really focusing on winning the MVP but rather helping the team defend their title.

“Focus lang gyud gihapon mi sa goal nga kami mochampion mi ani nga season, wala kaayo nako gihuna-huna nga maMVP ko,” said Salarda.

(We all focused on the goal that we can become champions this season, I did not think a lot that I will become an MVP.)

“Kung naa mi sa court, akong mindset kay one game at a time ra gyud, pero confident ra gyud ko modaog mi kay grabe akong kahago sa training ug practice.”

(When we are on the court, my mindset is one game at a time, but I was confident that we could win because we really worked hard in training and practice.)

DA-10, URC strengthens sustainable potato project in Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To scale up the potato production in the province of Bukidnon, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 in partnership with the Universal Robina, Corp. turned over potato seed tubers to the different farmers’ associations (FAs) in Bukidnon on March 23, 2023

A total of 27,000 kilograms (kg) of Granola potato seed tubers were given out to nine farmer groups in Bukidnon and DA-10’s Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) as buffer stock.

Project recipients include FAs from Impasug-ong – Kibenton High-Value Crops Farmers’ Association (3,000 kg), Kubayan Agri Farmers’ Association (3,000 kg), and Intavas Agri Farmers’ Association (3,000 kg); Sumilao – Sumilao Farmers’ Indigenous Association (3,000 kg), Lupiagan Igorot Farmers’ Association (3,000 kg), and Licoan Growers’ Association (3,000 kg); Lantapan – United Ifugao Association in Mindanao (3,000 kg), and Cawayan Farmers’ Association (3,000 kg); and Malaybalay City – Imbayao Community Participatory Action Research (2,500 kg) and DA-10’s NMACLRC (500 kg).

“We are here, continuing our company’s commitment to farming communities to address challenges in terms of getting potato seeds, help with farmers’ livelihood and contribute to the improvement of the national productivity of potatoes,” shared URC Vice-President for Procurement Rebecca E. Yap.

OIC-Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Cora A. Dumayaca expressed her gratitude to URC for the continued partnership and remarked, “This is very beneficial to our farmers as potato seeds constitute 60% of the overall cost of production. We hope that the associations will be able to sustain their production.”

On receiving the project, Crisilda D. Paguyod, Licoan Farmers’ Association president, thanked DA-10 and URC, especially that acquiring potato seeds has been one of their challenges.

She further added that Granola is well suited in their area and that the seeds they received will be distributed to 20 farmer-members of their group. (DA RFO-10)

DA-10 4Ks validates 5 sites in Impasug-ong town

The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) through the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4Ks) program, visited five sites in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon to conduct a Preliminary Social Investigation (PSI)

With the program focused on serving the Indigenous People (IP) and Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC), DA-10 OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado said that the undertaking is in response to the local government of Impasug-ong’s request of broadening the reach of the 4Ks program in their locality.

Sites included are sitios Ananaso, New Imbatug, Paculab, Paganahan, and Ulayanon in barangay Kalabugao, which are all inhabited by the Higaonon tribe.

April Grace M. Racines, DA-10 4Ks focal person, said that the PSI gauges the agricultural needs and identifies the available crops and livestock in an area through interviews, geotagging, site inspection, and validation.

Results of the investigation, she added, will then be used to determine the necessary interventions to be poured out in the identified sites.

On top of the mentioned sitios, Dir. Collado detailed that eight more sites are eyed to be validated soon.

The 4Ks is a three-year special project of DA that aims to aid the IPs through agri-fishery-related livelihood projects and to capacitate them through agricultural skills training and workshops to increase their knowledge and productivity. (CRSeraspe/DA-10)
