CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (13 October 2026) — The Department of Public Works and
Highways in Region 10 has enforced a one-lane traffic flow on the Atugan Bridge in the
municipality of Impasugong in Bukidnon starting Tuesday, October 13.
DPWH-10 advised motorists driving light vehicles with a gross weight of up to five tons to use
the Impasugong–Patulangan Bypass Road (Old Sayre Highway) as an alternative route to avoid
congestion at the bridge site.
“This measure is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain the safety and accessibility of the bridge
while awaiting repair,” DPWH-10 said in its October 8 advisory.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the repairs after engineers inspected the Atugan
Bridge — originally constructed in 1985 — and determined its structural condition to be “poor”
during a recent site visit.
Impasugong town officials told MindaNews that the anticipated heavy traffic congestion at the
Atugan Bridge did not materialize, with traffic flowing smoothly as of noontime on October 13.
“The delay is only five minutes and the line of waiting vehicles is only 100 meters deep,” Ed
Alfred Alambra, of the Impasugong Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, told
MindaNews in a phone interview.
Alambra advised motorists to avoid passing the Atugan Bridge during peak hours — specifically
during early mornings and late afternoons when schools and offices open and close — to
minimize potential travel delays.
The Atugan Bridge is said to be the highest bridge in Mindanao at 64.5 meters. (Froilan
