PMNP launched in Bukidnon to combat malnutrition in children

MALAYBALAY CITY – The Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as lead agencies, recently launched the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) in Bukidnon

The PMNP brings together various stakeholders and involved government agencies to address critical health issues focusing on maternal and child healthcare that carries the theme “Sa Healthy Pilipinas, Lahat Malakas! Converging Governance and Empowering Communities Against Maternal and Child Malnutrition.”

“Hindi pwede sila, hindi pwedeng tayo, kundi tayong lahat. Kaya sama-sama nating i-angat ang nutrisyon ng mga kabataan dahil we are chosen, because we can! Kayo ay napili para maging piloto sa ibang lokal na pamahalaan sa Region 10. (None of them can do it, and neither can we alone. If we all come together, we can totally make it happen! Let’s team up and boost the nutrition of the youth because we’ve been chosen for this mission. Let’s make a positive impact together),” Abdullah B. Dumana Jr. Undersecretary for Field Implementation and Coordination Team-Mindanao said.

Among 17 target regions, Northern Mindanao is one of the PMNP recipients.

Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon provinces were identified as implementing sites. Four Bukidnon towns: Talakag, Cabanglasan, Kalilangan, and San Fernando, were identified as pilot areas.

The four-year PMNP seeks to enhance the nutritional status of children aged five and below, including pregnant and lactating women, through a comprehensive approach covering health and nutrition services, food security, livelihood, water, sanitation, hygiene, and behavior change communication.

Bukidnon is one of the recipients of this project geared towards adopting a bold and multisectoral approach to achieve nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions across various barangays in identified areas of the province.

DOH and DSWD, along with NNC, DA, DILG, NEDA, DBM, DOST, NCIP, and National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, jointly urged the LGUs, private sector, and communities to actively participate in addressing the prevalence of childhood stunting and nutritional deficiencies.

DOH Undersecretary Dumama Jr. led the Pledge of Commitment signing that conveyed the active participation of Gov. Rogelio Neil Roque, DILG Regional Director Wilhelm Suyko, and representatives from various partner agencies, all coming together to demonstrate their dedication to the cause. (BGE/PIA-Bukidnon)

Flood-stricken Bukidnon folk to receive P11-M gov’t aid — Romualdez

MANILA, Philippines – Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has assured flood-hit residents of Bukidnon that a P11 million assistance package from the government is on the way

Romualdez, in a statement on Thursday, said that he and his wife, Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, have mustered P11 million — P10 million from the payouts of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, and P500,000 each for cash assistance and relief goods.

The cash assistance and relief aid came from Romualdez’s personal relief funds. He also said that the distribution of the aid was done with the help of Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores.

“We are united with the province of Bukidnon during this time of need. With the steady resolve of Congressman Jonathan and Congresswoman Yedda, hope that the flood victims would be able to get back on their feet sooner than later,” the House Speaker said.

According to the latest figures, 6,810 families were displaced by the flooding that started last June 21. These were broken down into the following:

482 families in Highway Cabangahan; 941 in Aglayan; 265 in San Jose; 401 in Bangcud; 636 in Sinanglanan; 462 in Violeta; 537 in Sto. Niño; 1,386 in Managok; 821 in Simaya; and 879 in San Martin.

The Speaker’s office said the P10 million AICS program would be distributed starting next week.

Flores meanwhile thanked the Romualdez couple and Tingog party-list Rep. Jude Acidre for their assistance.

“I would like to commend the Speaker, Congresswoman Yedda, and Congressman Jude Acidre for their assistance,” Flores said.

Flores also said that he intends to utilize the P500,000 cash assistance from the Speaker to buy goods for a community pantry — similar to what Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Cabredo did to the funds from Romualdez, given for the welfare of Albay residents who evacuated due to the Mayon Volcano’s activity. (Inquirer.net)

DSWD prepositions food packs in N. Mindanao with El Niño threat

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Northern Mindanao Region (DSWD-10) prepositioned Friday 34,518 family food packs (FFPs) amounting to PHP23.4 million amid the looming drought-induced El Niño season

In a statement last March 24, the DSWD-10 said the FFPs delivered to local government units (LGUs) in the region as reserved supply in case calamities will occur.

The agency said the FFPs form part of the disaster management protocols for LGUs to provide augmentation to communities and families in need.

The FFPs also serve as an addition to the 400 metric tons or 10,000 bags of milled rice donated by the South Korean government earlier this week.

The donated rice from Korea will be distributed to DSWD offices in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao, and Northern Mindanao.

In Northern Mindanao, DSWD-10 Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Marco M. Bautista said the rice supply will be dispensed to the severely affected families by the shear line flooding last year.

“These are not only food donations but donations for life – as they will serve sustenance for families of the victims. Rest assured that this will be given and distributed to the affected families,” he said.

DSWD-10 will distribute the donated rice to 68 of the 112 affected families in Northern Mindanao whose homes were destroyed by the calamity. (Nef Luczon/PNA)
