SAN FERNANDO, Bukidnon – The Municipality of San Fernando commemorated its second anniversary as an insurgency-free municipality on May 28, 2026, at the Municipal Gymnasium, marking two years of sustained peace, strengthened security, and steady community development
According to the 89th Infantry Battalion, the celebration was led by Mayor Rogelio C. Yeke and
attended by Indigenous Peoples (IP) leaders, former rebels, representatives from the private
sector, community members, and officials from the security and peace sectors.
One of the highlights of the event was the signing of the “Pakigsaad” or Peace Covenant by IP
leaders from San Fernando and the neighboring municipalities of Talaingod, Kapalong, and
Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte.
The covenant underscored the IPs’ collective commitment to preserving peace, fostering unity
and cooperation, resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue, and safeguarding their ancestral
domains from threats that could undermine security and development in their communities.
Since its declaration as an insurgency-free municipality in 2024, San Fernando has continued to
expand government services, implement community development programs, and strengthen
peace-building initiatives aimed at promoting long-term stability and progress.
Representing 10th Infantry Division Commander Major General Alvin V. Luzon, Brigadier
General Christopher M. Diaz, Commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, emphasized the
importance of sustaining peace through continuous collaboration and the active participation of
all stakeholders.
In his message, Diaz urged the local government and residents of San Fernando to remain
vigilant and united in protecting the youth and IP communities from the influence and activities
of rebel groups.
Also present during the event were Brigadier General Eufracio Malig Jr., Assistant Division
Commander of the 10th Infantry Division; Lt. Col. Antonio G. Bulao I, Commanding Officer of
the 89IB; Lt. Col. Jesus Rosete, Commanding Officer of the 60th Infantry Battalion; and Police
Colonel Oliver Navales, Director of the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (BPPO).
The commemoration served not only as a celebration of a significant security milestone but also
as a testament to the enduring partnership among government agencies, security forces, IP
leaders, and local communities in safeguarding and sustaining peace for future generations.
